What Is Pilates And Who Is It Good For?

(Everything You Need to Know)

You have probably heard about Pilates and want to know more about it and if it suits your lifestyle. Pilates is not just for extremely fit people, athletes, and fitness fanatics.

Pilates is actually an accessible way to build strength in your core muscles, allowing you to have a better posture and improve your balance and flexibility. Here is what a rookie needs to know before their first Pilates class.

What Exactly Is Pilates?

Pilates is a type of exercise that consists of low-impact movements that promote strength, flexibility, and endurance. Pilates highlights proper postural alignment, core strength, and muscle balance.  A Pilates workout generally consists of different movements that promote the body's endurance, core stability and strength, and muscle control.

Can Beginners Do Pilates?

There is a common misconception that professional dancers or serious athletes can be the only ones to do a Pilates workout. While it is true that these groups of people first used Pilates, they are not the only ones who can do this kind of strength training and reap its benefits.

Another common misconception is that you have to have access to specialized equipment in order to do a Pilates workout. Maybe you have seen a few of those complicated Pilates machines and got the wrong idea about the Pilates. Those machines should not intimidate you because they are just an addition to the workout; a majority of Pilates exercises can be done with just a mat on your bedroom floor.

Who Should Do Pilates?

If you have not exercised for a longer period of time, if you have health problems or are a bit older, you should check with your doctor before starting any new type of workout, and Pilates is no exception. If you are pregnant, make sure to check with your healthcare provider before starting Pilates (or any other exercise program).

Beginners should always start slow and gradually increase the workout intensity, and they should be following a Pilates program to make sure they maximize their potential.

Using any of these Pilates equipment is going to help beginners improve their form, perform the exercises correctly and maximize the results.
